hello to all ive only recently goy my first allotment october last year it was a dumping ground for all on my site and hasnt had any thing growing in it for 7 years ive done lots to it and it is now starting to look like an allotment but this is where the fun starts ive started to make plans for the beds and have started digging and im still finding loads of rubbish that has been buried my first question is....... crouch grass its covered in one area and i got told that if it got ploughed it would kill the crouch grass ( i was told by the bloke that offered to plough it @ £30 ) but ive been doing some reading and i think that if it get ploughed it will make matters worse ie the roots advice please!!! what a great site this is

It wasn't chickens here Gogs. It was just a horrible noise. I think the server has been virused.

Anyway. Welcome chickychic. I think you have already seen the couch grass thread. DON'T PLOUGH. It will make it worse.

Hi Chickychic, welcome to GC. As Sarra says, don't plough it in, you'll make it ten times worse. Use a fork to loosen the soil and lift the roots out. If it is too compacted, use a small pickaxe or similar tool( not a spade) to loosen the soil. Not a job for the feignt hearted [IMG]
