Yes, thank you Woo and on that note, I have a "Jubilee Celebration" from David Austin which I bought the first year they produced it, I think it was 2002/3. It should be a bush rose but I only ever get one stem and at most 5 flowers on side shoots which are all near the top. The one main stem is now too tall really for a bush rose (about 3ft) but I'm afraid to prune it in case I lose it altogether. It's healthy enough and when the flowers do come they are stunning. Do you have any advice? I look after it in the same way as all of my other roses; maybe I was just unlucky to choose a straggler?

I have just dug one up @wiseowl
It has cost me a fork and spade
It had like long fingers growing deep into the ground.
Shame to see it go, because it had been here a long time, but the border looks much better now.

I've lost count of the forks and spades that end up like that here, NG ;)
Here's my love of the moment....it's escaped the attentions of the deer this year, thanks to bars of soap suspended from the stems...Alchymist. DSCF0065.JPG DSCF0067.JPG
