I've hired a 'Rug Doctor' on a number of occasions, but with animals and Mr. F'smum (although not necessarily in that order!) tramping in and out, I've decided that on economic and convenience grounds, the time has come to actually buy a carpet/upholstery cleaner.

They're not cheap so I've been doing some research. Of course, there are as many opinions as there are cleaners; some are said to be 'noisy' (I guess that's a matter of opinion - it's not going to be in use 24/7), some are criticised for leaving things too wet (again, I guess, a matter of opinion - I don't expect things to be left 'bone dry') and with some it's felt the 'tanks' are too small (but if I own it, it doesn't really matter too much how often I have to refill it).

Does anyone actually own one and would you buy it again?

    Hi

shhhhh dont tell anyone but I have a Bissel and it also heats up the water so every where drys up more quickly looks like a big upright hoover, I think its the Pro Heat one ?? , every time I go to my mums and ask do you want me to bring any thing " the swanky hoover" is the answer.

Dead easy to use. and not like the ones from olden days :heehee:

Hope that helps Mrs F , tell us which one you want and we can have a comp who can find the best bargain for you and not forgetting Mr F as well !!!

I've owned four down the years. The first one was a Hoover pull along, although it functioned quite well, it made my back ache and where the hose joined the main body it used to come off as it got older with wear.

The following two were Vax's, never again! They are heavy and clumsy. No sooner had the guarantees expired problems set in. The foot where the dirty water tank sits (these were the upright sort) distorts and doesn't clean properly. Both tanks were difficult handling when detaching and re-attaching.

I've now got a Bissell upright which I bought a couple of months ago. Probably the cheapest in the range and very simple, also lightweight. Tanks are easy to deal with and so far I'm pleased with it.
I don't like the shampoo that came free with it though, so I am back to using the AAA brand. A pleasant, fresh perfume to it also.

Hope this has been of some help to you. :)

My mam has a Vax one. I've borrows it a few times. It uses electricity and makes noise. If I ever figure out that it does anything else, say for example, maybe clean anything, I'll let you know.
