Hi to you guys doing a grand job there in Admin. :) I have a couple of problems so need your help please.

I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows11 installed, so I don't know whether it's that - that's made a difference. When I 'tag' someone the little dropdown box button isn't functioning to insert the person's username. The box appears but when I hit it - it doesn't automatically insert the name, so I have to type it.

I have a similar situation when logging in. The drop down box doesn't automatically show my name when putting in the first letter. Again I have to type it in full, although it's no hardship. Any ideas please?

I usually start typing someone's name with @ in front and after a few letters the box appears.
Is this not happening, admittedly if its a short name I usually have typed it by then.

I've never logged out, not sure what my password is but I think chrome remembers it.

Yes the box does appear after a few letters Pete but when I hit it - it doesn't respond.

I always log out. I don't believe passwords are secure if they are remembered online.

I never log out of any sites I use other than the bank or shopping which log you out automatically. Forums, email, news, weather and Amazon I just stay logged in.

The password one is likely to be cookies, did you accept them @Sheal ?

When you see the drop down with a list of names you have to click on one with the mouse, are you saying nothing happens then ?

I accepted cookies @JWK but it's made no difference. It's not the password though but my username. Usually when I put the first letter in there's a drop down box with my full username to hit, but it's not functioning.

With the tagging the list appears but if I hit the button it doesn't work so I have to type the tag in full.

I don't know what is going on there Sheal, I never get a drop down for my username it is already filled in. Are you using Chrome with Windows 11 ?

Might be an auto complete setting somewhere but it's not a forum software issue. This is what I get with tagging and I simply select from the list but it only works if you don't click or tap elsewhere before

The forum software stores your username and password online, there is no alternative. When you type it, the forum software compares it with what is stored in the online database. A similar process occurs for all websites requiring registration and logging on. Ticking the box 'Stay logged in' does not compromise security, unless you are on a shared pc such as in a public library.

You can get your Web browser to autofill username and password but that has nothing to do with our forum software. It might be worth looking at your autofill settings @Sheal

On GC, I just let it remember me, so I'm always logged in on machines that it recognises, I assume that is done via cookies on your device.

The other way I do it with some other sites is let the browser store the log in, that way you still get the log in page come up but it gets filled in automatically.

As to the dropdown box when tagging someone I'm not sure how that works, but has for me up till now, be interesting to see what happens when I get my new laptop.

@JWK I'm using Edge/Bing with Windows11 and used Edge/Bing with Windows10 on my old laptop - it all functioned on there.

That's exactly how it appeared on Windows10 and functioned perfectly @Loofah - but not on Windows11.
