    Ok, three questions :)

    1. When should I take the lids off my propogators? I've sown my first ever seeds and many of them are sprouting away merrily. Some cosmos were starting to brush the lids yesterday so I potted them on into little pots instead. I've planted a real mixture in 4 propogators (in the GH) including sweet peas, penstemon, morning glory, dwarf french beans, brocolli, poppies and some other flowering things that I got free.

    2. I have an 18" high penstemon in a bed that wintered really well until it snowed. Now most of it is dead, apart from 2 stems that still look ok. Should I cut it back or something?

    3. I have lots of daffs flowering in the garden but two pots of daffs I bought in spring last year aren't flowering at all this time round. Should I throw them away or is there a chance they will flower later this year or next spring?

Yours in ignorance and with thanks - Lindsay.

I take off mine as soon as possible after germination. Maybe I'll put them back on overnight for warmth. The main worry I always have is it gets very hot very quickly if they are in the sun with the lids on. Sounds like you've done the right thing in potting on.

Now is the ideal time to remove that old growth, cut it off near to the soil. They sprout again from the root and will only flower on the new growth. if you look carefully you might see new sprouts coming.

Leave them, you get the best flowers from freshly bought bulbs, that's because the growers removed the flowers so the plant puts all it's energy into making a nice fat bulb. So they quite often take a year or so to recover and get going again.
