So I’m helping a friend who’s recently moved to a big garden with lots of plants we’ve identified a lot so far but a bit stuck on the following so any help would be most appreciated, especially re pruning as it’s all a bit over grown.

    I hate multi posts.
It can get very messy with conflicting suggestions.

    1. IMG 3916.
    Hmm.Thinking.
Would be good to know if it is woody..ie a shrub?

    2. IMG 3827.
    Had a zoom in....
    Azara microphylla.
    Smells fab like honey.
Edited to correct...sorry should have said vanilla..not honey.

    3. IMG 3917.
    Maybe Hebe sp.

    4. IMG 3810.
    ?

    5. IMG 3809.
    Maybe Viburnum sp.
One leaf is not enough for accurate id.

These are all very much long shots as we'll need to see flowers for firm ID and varieties. 1/ 3916 Sedum, 2/ 3917 Penstemon, 3/ 3809 Philadelphus, 4/ 3827 Cotoneaster horizontalis, 5/ 3810 possibly Kniphofia.

    Interesting.
Only 2 posts and already completely different suggestions.
    Yikes!

It’s too early for Cotoneaster to flower and those flowers look more like your images @Silver surfer, a plant I don’t know but it looks like a good one :).

The only Azara I know is serrata and as the leaves have smooth edges and given the form of the branches, hence the guess :)

My initial thought was Cotoneaser too @noisette47 until I saw those flowers in close up and thought about the timing. I have no idea about the others :).

I can see where @noisette47 is coming from re3816 as a sedum but imo it’s too woody, also hard to judge scale

3817 looks my scruffy Penstemon Garnet

      3810 possibly an Astelia?

Would be helpful to know where this garden is.
Azara microphylla is not very common...a tender plant.
      Nor is Heptacodium common.

      Just another suggestion...Heptacodium miconioides .

Our Azara serrata is every green but not showing any signs of flowers at the moment. Doesn't help though.
But agree with @Silver surfer that multiple images don't help.

My Azara microphylla has just started flowering; Azara serrata is about a month later in my garden.
The unknown leaf reminds me of a deciduous Viburnum.

Some of these photos you will need to take again, especially photo 3 to see the shape/form.

Photo 1 - Looks like a form of Sedum, but need to confirm it's not a woody plant.
Photo 2 - Agree with Silver surfer, it's Azara microphylla.
Photo 3 - Need to see the full shape of this plant to know. Could be a number of plants.
Photo 4 - With that long spike, it could be a few plants, but I'm thinking Eryngium yuccifolium.
Photo 5 - A guess, maybe some kind of Dogwood?

:yay:Ohh thank you everyone !! Sorry I’m not the best photographer I’m taking them on my phone ! The first photo is tiny almost like a creeping weed, pic 2 I thought was cotoneaster but it is a large shrub I’ve now googled pictures of Azara and that looks like a match, thank you Silver Surfer! Picture 3 is a large shrub I thought hebe looking at the dead flowers but I’ve never seen one with long leaves?? picture 4 I thought kniphofia too looking at the dead flower spike, so we will see what happens when it flowers I guess we can just chop the dead bit off for now. Agree now you’ve said it for viburnum on the last one it’s just sticks at the moment and that was the only leaf on the shrub  thought I’d give it a go with the ID request though ! When stuff starts to flower I’ll take more (hopefully not so rubbish) photos. Big thank you again everyone :yay:
