Posting these on behalf of a friend - new house, new garden and has just planted some stuff whilst battling against the weeds (please ignore the grass etc in the pics), so ladies and gents - what are thsese?

Mrs C thought tulips, but I am thinking more of something more like a gladoli?

I haven't a clue with this one - looks to me if it has done flowering? Primrose family, maybe?

    Same plant, different angle:

Lastly, I think the ID being looked for here is the two plants in the foreground (left bottom of pic)?

Not sure about the first, possibly an Iris? But don't quote me on that. Nice butterfly you caught in the top of the picture, don't quite recognise the variety :)

Second and Third, some thing from the Primula family, primrose or the like.
Oh, and that tall growth just to the rear of the prim in image 3, sticky bud! A NASTY weed, as the name says, the buds stick to your gloves, clothing etc and if you don't spot and remove them quickly, they allow you to carry them all over the garden. They are sticky to the touch, making it difficult to get rid off into a bag for disposal, I wouldn't add to my compost bin, and the roots are very fine and break off easily, leaving the plant to re-grow.

Fourth image, bit blurry to my eyes, looks like it could be buttercups. Have they got really persistent white roots when you try to pull them up?

#1 Might be montbretia, aka crocosmia.
    #2 Primrose
#4 Most likely buttercup, grrr, get it out.

Could be Montbretia as Madahhlia says. Any chance of lifting a bit? If it's got a small bulb like bit then it's probably a Montbretia corm, if it's a long-ish lump, then it would be an Iris rhizome.

Some of the fans in photo one look the right shade of green (and shiny enough) for Iris foetidissima.

The nasty sticking weed, we call goosegrass no idea why.

    Cheers, Tony.

    Thanks all :)

I am doing this remotely I am afraid, so no chance of lifting any of them to see more; funny enough, I saw a patch of crocosmia today at another friends place and it immediately brought me in mind of pic 1. I have some more to ID from today's visit, but will post them in a separate thread, as its a separate place all together.

I had spotted the sticky bud - we called it 'sticky willy' when we were kids (aren't kids just lovely!); gets absolutely everywhere that stuff. In fact, I saw some in a corner of my garden the other day, which will need to be hauled out.

I will pass on the advice :)
