Does anyone know what this is?.
In the near future it's going to be spectacular as there are numerous flower spikes.

I think its a Phormium fred [IMG] They're just coming into flower now, although they're not so much flowers as 'danglys'. You can get all sorts of colours, the dark green one like in your pic gets huge  But you can get smaller coloured hybrids. I've got a few...Jester, a pinky striped one that grows to 4ft and variegated and purple ones that grow to a good 8ft in a neighbours garden. Mine are still small yet...it'll be a while before I see any flower spikes in my patch  :( :D
Dunno? Probably totally wrong as I don't know much  [IMG] [IMG]

I'd go along with windy, it looks like a phormium to me as well.
Although it does seem to have a lot of flowering stems.

yay!! Does that mean I'm now a proper bona-fide gardener Pete??? [IMG] :D
Just been out to look at the neighbours purple ones (which are thoroughly neglected and smell distinctly of dog-poo [IMG] ) and they've got 6 flower stems each. Must be a good year for Phormiums [IMG]

    Hi Fred

I think it is a phormium too and last year one of mine had this enormous flower spike rise up, I thought what a cracker, but what a let down, most insignificant blooms, still as I was only looking for a foliage plant they are well worth growing especially Phormium Tenax Sundowner with purple centre and creamy pink edges to the leaves.
