Even though it turned out to be a yet another grey day today I still went around the area to see how the land and lakes were coping with all this water:

This a small feeder pond which is connected to the almost mile long narrow lake in the distance.

This is the Middlewich Canal which runs along the centre of the town and leads on towards Sandbach.

This is the River Weaver which runs through the town of Winsford [home of the biggest Salt Mine in Europe]. It's a fairly big deep River that can take a lot of water even in this prolonged spell. Up river it broadens out into what are called Flashes which are of lake like proportions before it narrows again.
Fairly big Ships used to get up as far as Winsford taking salt and other goods.

In the distance from this small iron bridge you can see the beginnings of the Salt Works [the tall building]. The Mine actually runs deep under the River and quite extensively for a mile or two. Most of the mining is done to your left [East] while almost none is done to the West. The Salt fields are a mixture of Rock Salt and Brine Fields and a lot that has gone on roads and also in your Salt Cellar has come from here. A lot of Salt Processing Firms are in the area taking advantage of the huge stock of salt here.

Also, now, there are a lot of Gas Companies taking advantage of the empty vast underground caverns created by the extraction of Brine, and they have drilled into them to store huge quantities of Natural Gas and other extremely flammable gases. So don't smoke while driving past.:heehee:

Lovely pics Armandii, the colourful narrow-boats bring a bit of colour to our grey weather. :)
