Between my village and a nearby township there is a manmade lake used by the community for many leisure activities. The lake is split by the main road to the local shopping centre.

The lake is populated by Ducks and a significant number of Swans, that reappear each year and breed.
The Swans/Ducks are fed regularly by the many families who walk over the lake footway. Cars park and watch the bird activity

In these times of Road-rage, hell for leather rushing about and general aggression it is interesting to watch a family of Swans negotiate the journey from one side of the road to the other.

The lead Swan sets off at a sedate waddle, followed in single file by the rest of the brood - ignoring any and all traffic. The cars have to stop and wait patiently for the troop to complete their journey.

Unlike the queues seen at the many roundabouts/junctions etc., it is heartwarming to see ther car occupants sitting with smiles on their faces, pointing and commenting on the Swans progress.
No-one in the queues in both directions honk their horns and there is 5 minutes+ of harmony amongst roadusers.
Pedestrians also stand and wait for them, not wanting to cause distress/alarm

Once the Swan family have completed their meander, the cars move on and rejoin the road war.

You can almost feel the warmth for those few minutes:sunny:

Nice one, had exactly that happen to me on the levels last week, oncoming driver even flashed me to slow down before I went round the corner. Took their time to cross the road & the babies just stopped, even though mum & dad had got off the road.

This morning we had to stop for a flock of Moo Moos, I said to my boy, "Thats the lot that had my wing mirrors last week" and, true to character, they flattened the wing mirrors on a Volvo before going into the field.
