We went to the garden centre this afternoon and I could just not resist this little vine :-)

It was the only one there with a miniature bunch of grapes

I don't quite understand the pruning instructions though. It says that during the 1st year let a couple of shoots get to the height required and then break off the tips. During the winter prune back to the first large eye which is where the fruit will start to form next year. I shall have to wait to see what it looks like by the winter as I don't know what the 'first large eye' looks like.

I stopped the garden centre owner and asked him and he just looked blank and said that they never prune theirs and it is gradually spreading along the roof of the greenhouse.

Lovely plant fmay, They had them in Peter barrets yesterday, it said on the label the fruit was edible but bitter, is it the same vine?

That looks really great, fmay. I've never seen them sold like that before, it's quite an eye-catcher.

We have a grape vine growing in our Wintergarten, been there 19 - 20 years now. It is planted in the ground and it has never been pruned. Hubby just cuts all this years shoots off in the autumn, after the harvest, and only leaves the main trunk and the couple of old branches going along the beams.

Where do you plan on putting yours and how much space can you allow it to have?

    It's a Vitis vinifera (apparently).
I thought that it looked like a bonsai with the thickness of the trunk and I love bonsai (but don't have any).
We may be moving house next year so I shall probably keep it potted until I know what is happening.
