A New & Interesting Technique to Try

    Here's a technique you might like to try. You don't need any fancy/expensive equipment. You can do it indoors and you don't even need daylight. So it's a nice alternative to watching the TV or browsing the gardening catalogues :D

    The simplest form just requires a CD, a few drops of water and a reading lamp or similar. You'll also need a tripod and either a remote shutter release or a camera with a delayed shutter release facility -most have it.
    Pop the CD on a table top and move your camera and lamp around until you can see the light reflected from the CD being broken in its spectral colours, add a few drops of water to the CD, focus and - click! The exposure will be fairly long hence the need for a steady support for the camera.

    An interesting variation is to place a shallow container of water on the CD and then add a few drops of olive oil or cooking oil. Swirl the liquid around and wait for it to settle. Focus and - click.

    The trickiest bit of the exercise is getting the spectral display and water or oil droplets lined up and in view - it can take a minute or so.

    The fun thing is that you never quite know what you are going to get :thumb:

    The 1st ones I saw of these were by Walnut. They are great. Just goes to show what you can do with just a bit of imagination.:thmb:

    I use them for bird scarers and have also made a wind vane our of some.:gnthb:
