    Hi val

My sympathies , just getting over one myself !!! started last Monday and by Tuesday full throttle.

1st time I have tried them "Night nurse Capsules" worked a treat and slept like a lamb which helped, and Heinz Chicken noodle soup:santa hug:

Crush a clove of garlic, place in mug. Fill mug with boiling water add a teaspoon of honey (more if desired) and a squirt of lemon. Drink while hot.

Whiskey, lemon juice, hot water, brown sugar & honey. It's not a remedy, but will make things more bearable, take early evening.

Sympathies Val as we have been through it the same and I still have a cough that I can't get rid of three weeks later.

Re the Night Nurse,be careful about taking it if you are on any tablets as I once heard about someone who was on prescription Meds and took one of those Cold and Flu remedies and they ended up six foot under as they had mixed two lots of meds together so overdosed.:yikes:

I tend to just let the cold run it's course, although I find Airwaves are good to chew on as they are menthol and tend to stop me coughing albeit for a short time.

Hope it clears up before the 25th if you celebrate it:)

            (Chicken Soup).
Stock of a small boiled chicken, let cool, skim off any fat from the surface.
Add a half cup of white rice and some grated Carrots .
Bring to boil, stirring regular then let simmer till you are satisfied the rice and carrot are cooked.

This should help Val. It helped the wife and I..

No idea as I shake colds off in about twelve hours usually.

What herbs do you have in your garden @val? Have you any sage, rosemary or thyme? An infusion of sage leaves works wonders. It soothes sore throats and relieves congestion. Thyme works the same but its horrible as an infusion. Rosemary is anti-inflammatory so again helps with congestion but it also helps with headache. Its also a very mild stimulant so it makes you feel like you have more energy. Rosemary surprisingly comes with a warning though. Its not for people with dangerously high blood pressure or cardiac conditions due to its mild stimulant action apparently so I've read.

The thing is with herbal infusions, just about anything works. I suspect the herb itself isn't doing as much as many people think. I suspect its more that by taking them as infusions, you are drinking lots of hot water, thus keeping you well hydrated.

Luckily for me, I am the same as @longk :)
I usually get a cold if my feet get cold for a while. Strange I know .
I take a paracetamol at the first signs and that usually stops it in its tracks.
When I have had colds in the past, someone told me that having a hot totty before bed may help. I guess that depends on the person, and if they take meds though etc.
