If some of you have read my catch a thief when my artifical heron was taken,i thought you might like to know that i spotted a manky real life heron on our garage roof that was looking down on our pond last week so i shooed it away, then it came back so i shooed it away again, (then my husband who didn't believe i had seen one) saw it flapping it's wings near the pond, we didn't know if it had taken any of the fish because the pond was murky as we had taken switched the pump off, so we drained a little of the water and put some more in then the water was clear, and we saw that helen the heron had taken five of the fish the greedy so and so.
They have been happly swimming around for 2 years and hadnt' been touched. We did have a net over the pond but i didn't like it because my husband didn't put it on properly and it looked horrible, but the fish were never taken, so now we will put the net back on which is a black one this time that doesn't show so much, I suggested to my husband that if we shoved it under the rocks around the pool it will hardly be noticed so that is our job this weekend.

Its such a shame when this happens. :(
Herons are such beautifull gracefull creatchers though, I spent over an hour once watching one and it hardly moved in all that time. I think you have to remember its all nature, and nature can be crule. Still its very anoying when its your fish [IMG] [IMG]

A lesson learned w g also proves those plastic herons don't work, they don't deter thieves either, you cann't beat a net.

Oh dear wg, i can imagine how you felt. Your fish after all. Nature is nature, but when it's your own you don't accept it. That's our nature too now.

I hope the net solves the problem. A shame to have to cover your pond though.

Can't put a net over the plastic heron though walnut. i favour traps myself. only joking.

How many fish do you have left wg?

    cheers

    Borrowers,
We have a mirror carb 2 common carbs a leather carp and a gold fish the carbs are quite big so we think that's why the heron couldn't take them.
I don't like the carbs as they are brown. We had all the fish given to us because the guy who gave them to us was moving house. We had 5 more gold fish off him, i didn't like to tell him i didn't like the carb so we took them as well.
