Its a sad day for the family today as my mum has had to have her beloved Sparky put down. Her little yorkshire terrier, who has been by he side for the past 17 years will be sadly missed. 02

Sorry to hear that O2 - but if he was unwell with no hope, then putting him to sleep was the kindest way to help him, so well done to your mum for being brave and facing such a difficult decision on his behalf.

Nature decided it was Sparky's time to move on - the vet just helped nature speed up the process painlessly, quietly and with dignity.

17 was a very good age and if he lived life to the full and was loved, then no animal, or person, can ask for more than that.

    Hugs

    Kath x

Anyone who keeps a pet has to be prepared for this to happen eventually, there's nothing worse than to see a beloved pet suffer. When they are ready to go, it's our one final kindness to them to make it as painless and easy as possible for them. I know from personal experience how your Mum feel, 02, like May says, been there already, felt lousy about it. I still think that my first dog, Ben, all those years ago was the best dog in the world and still miss him. Best wishes to you and your Mum.

Sorry to hear about Sparky, 02. That was a grand age for the little fellow and although he will be sadly missed, at least he will not suffer.

I've been there 5 times with our cats, and as difficult as it is, it is the best thing we can do for them when things reach a certain stage. Pity it can't be done with us if we need it.

My thoughts are with you and your mom, big hug and xx

Cripes Kedi - you've just hit me with that one - straight to the heart.

I have lost several beloved animals - the last and worst a young cat called Beanie who developed a nasty abdominal malignant tumour. I was more close to her and had an understanding with her than any other animal I have ever known. I had to put her to sleep myself and still get caught in the throat when I think of her. She is buried in my mum's garden and I made a little memorial garden around a small cat statue with ferns and black grass, with white cyclamen with silver leaves over the spot she is buried.

I have seen the heartache of euthanasia from both sides of that examination table. I know how it feels, and it never gets easier or 'routine'.

Your link just brought it all flooding back - and not only memories are flooding at the moment.

Thank you you've all been so kind. Poor Sparky was just going from bad to worse, mum knew the time had come. He was a pampered pooch and had a great life. He has been buried in my sisters garden, where she is going to plant a rose bush in memory of him. What a beautiful poem Kedi, thank you again your concern is overwhelming. 02

Our condolences to you and yours. Our little Ru left us in March this year (the red daxi in my avatar pic). He was only 9 and developed acute leukaemia - so no hope. He's in the garden now and I talk to him every day. Time, they say is a good healer .... it's gonna take a long, long time. Much love.

So sorry to hear about Sparky. Can't think of any further words than have already been said. What a lovely idea to have him in your sister's garden.

    cheers
