Well, it's officially Autumn, hasn't this year gone quick?!, so I thought I would take a stroll around the garden with the Sun going down. The twilight seems to bring out the intensity in colour of some plants and the softer light does change the atmosphere in the garden.

The smaller Hydrangea still making some colour under the Lilac

I love the Teasels at this time of year as even after they've flowered they're still standing out in the borders
    [IMG]

A touch of blue with the Michaelmas Daisies
    [IMG]

Is it me, or is there a touch of Autumn in this pic of the gate leading to the pond?:dunno:

This small Berberis has been in the garden so long that I've forgotten what variety it is. The thorns are wicked but it's always early with the lovely bright red berries.

I just love walking along this border because of the mad mixture of colour and plants.

These guys are everywhere this evening.

The Arbour where I sat before taking the amble. The climbing roses and Honeysuckle on either side are slowly making their way up to the roof.

The Japanese Anemones make a nice contrast with the Cannas.

The Trellis entrance is now covered in various Clematis, Sweetpeas, and Nasturtiums.......you can still get through it:heehee:

I don't know whether or not it's garden pc to mix pink and yellow....but....!!!

It's nice to sit here under the Acer Brilliantissimum, but I'm not sure what it's going to be like when there's no leaves and in the Winter cold!

This is one of 4 Nest Boxes that I made and put up a little late this and I've got in various areas of the garden. So hopefully next year........

One of the nicest things of the pond is that it's at the lowest point of the garden, sheltered, surrounded by a Jasmine Hedge and Climbing Roses so that you can't see any other part of the garden.

The pots around the borders still have lots of colour
    [IMG]

The Trellis Entrance always seems to have several Clematis in flower right up to the Autumn...I'm still figuring how to pack a few more in. But this is Clematis Tangutica doing it's thing.

Chinese Aster hiding quite happily under Cannas and Japanese Anemones
    [IMG]

Some of the Sweetpeas climbing around the Trellis Entrance. I quite like the rich colour of these......might sow some more for next year.

Rose "Kings Ransom" which has flowered very well this year.

Time to head back to the House for a another mug of tea!!:coffee::snork:

Lovely, lovely, lovely Big A. After our driest winter in 90 years and no rain this summer it is beautiful to see all the different flowers and shrubs. We are still green but not a lot of flowers. We still have no rain in sight and central Portugal is suffering terrible fires, as is Southern Spain.

Thank you for sharing your garden. xx

You're more than welcome, Victoria, and I'm so glad you like the garden.

Portugal is a beautiful place but I have seen the news about the fires. I think there's some speculation that some were started by vandals??? I don't think there's been much danger of such fires in the UK this year:heehee:

It was absolutely delightful to accompany you on your garden stroll; I could have spent quite a while beside your pond, musing.

Thank you for inviting us to share a very colourful and tranquil garden. Beautiful!

A garden to be proud off. Whenever I see someones garden I always go home with a must have list - after seeing yours my list is so long, I'll have to sell up and buy a house with a bigger garden!

Thank everybody for your very kind comments. It was nine years ago when I restarted the garden after abandoning it for two years, changing the long wide veg plot into a walk around border, widening the other borders and starting to plant as many Herbaceous plants and bulbs of as many varieties as I could. Some plants failed and some took to the garden very well, so like all gardening it was a case of trial and error.
Believe it or not, it is a very easy garden to run as it is, apart from the variety of shrubs, two large conifers, and an Acer Brilliantissimum, mostly herbaceous plants. It is a cottage style garden at heart despite the Bananas, Cannas and Palms stuffed into the borders and, to be honest, it's the simplest of flowers that give me the most satisfaction. I can walk around the garden after a eventful day at work and feel the stress just drift out of me and with a mug of tea or a glass of wine sit by the pond, under the Acer, or in the Arbor feel quietly content.
But it is a constant surprise to me that other people would actually like it, because it is not a neat, prim, ordered garden but one that is mainly chaotic in colour, texture, and heights that are not designed deliberately and therefore not everyone's cup of tea.
Despite all that it give me a sense of peace and brings a smile to my face and if it does that for other people then the garden has paid me back doubly.:snork: So again, thank you for your very kind comments.
