I'm not saying that my cats own me or that I slavishly tend to their merest whims, but seeing one of my cats, Jenny, was having trouble jumping onto the compost heap after her previous old ladder fell apart I built her another. It didn't take long for her to start using so that she could sit in the bower on the left on on the compost post and survey all she owns.:D

So no, my cats don't own me.:wallbang::heehee:

When my cat decided to survey her kingdom (or should that be 'queendom'!) from my husband's workshop roof, she used the deck rail and the neighbour's fence as 'stepping stones', however, the going up proved easier than the coming down - the deck rail is smooth and she'd often jump down onto it, slip and tumble onto the deck. Things got more difficult as pots and containers of outdoor tomatoes etc., began to be ranged around the edge of the deck and, keen gardener that she is, she was anxious to avoid the plants. In an effort to save her from the indignity of landing in the plants in a tangle of stems, legs and tail, I made her a 'halfway platform' - just a flat bit of wood screwed to a sturdy upright - which serves as a springboard from which leap over the top of plants.

Had I realised that she'd also use it as a place to doze, I'd have made it slightly larger because this cat doesn't just sleep, she becomes comatose, which means that yesterday, for the very first time in her 5 years, I heard her hiss because she'd fallen off and woke up as she landed smack in the middle of a bush tomato!

            Green tomato chutney anyone? :heehee:

It's good to hear, Fidgetsmum, that I'm not the only one to be a servant, homage payer, and carpenter to their cat.:love30::love30::kittykiss::kittykiss: Sally, my other cat is not so demanding, although whenever I sit down I get this "hairy growth" on my knee. I must get an appointment with the Doc to see if there's a cure.:D

It has somehow become my husband's job to serve the cat his dinner the moment he comes home from work. What started as an occasional treat (fresh chicken) has now become a daily, inalienable right. That's the dependency culture for you. The food has to be of the finest quality, served on time, and chopped into tiny morsels that a cat of a certain age with no remaining teeth can still enjoy.

If the food fails to arrive, or proves to be substandard, the cat comes to me to issue a formal complaint. I don't always understand all of it but I think the gist is something along the lines of: 'either give the sous-chef a good talking-to or fire him. He sucks.'
