Some of you might remember my post saying that for the very first time since I built my pond, 20 years ago, that this is the first year I've had Frog Spawn in it. I took a jug full of spawn out of the pond and put it in a plastic bucket because I didn't know how it would survive with fish being in the pond, and still left a great portion of it sitting in the weeds. Anyway I thought you like to see the progress:

Before, when it was just spawn in the bucket:

And today with a bit more movement in it!:

What I would be grateful for now is some advice on what to do with all these Tadpoles. Do I keep them in the bucket for a while or put them in the pond at the mercy of the fish?

Fish will eat them Armandii, mind you, they will eat each other if the food supply dwindles. Can you put them in the water butt & feed them fish flake food? They will also live off the algae on the sides.

Thanks, Ziggy. I have actually crumbled up some fish flakes and dropped them in, but that was as a trial to see if it worked as I was worried how them getting food from somewhere.......so I did something right!:snork: How long before they mature??

How's the Spawn managing that you left in the Pond?

About 6 weeks till they start to develop legs, depending on temperature, food supply & leibenshraum. The ones that don't mature will overwinter, feeding off the less able ones, survival of the fittest.

I can't see the spawn in the weeds any more, gcc, but as the fish swim past they give me the Thumbs Up!!:snork: I'm hoping that some of those in the pond will have survived as [a] they were laid on top of a dense jungle of weed and there are plenty of hiding places amongst the marginals plants etc.

Thanks again, Ziggy. I'll keep feeding them crushed fish flakes and keep and eye on them. I'll post some more pics as things develop.

leave that bucket in the shade that it does not overheat (probably no danger atm but maybe later)

Thanks for that, loveweed.:snork: Luckily where the bucket is situated is in semi shade and also in the shelter of the pond bench.

Armandii, I would spread them out into another two buckets/containers if you have them, the wider the better for more oxygen.
Any pond weed with algae on it will keep them fed.

Surley you will need to put something protruding out of the water, as frogs they will not be able to swim forever, they need out of the water do they not ?

That thought was wandering around at the back of my mind, Jack, to be honest. I'll wait until they get legs and then put a flat stick in each bucket lying against one side and see what happens.:snork:
