Well, today is mine and hubs 24th Wedding Anniversary. So what better way to spend the day, than walking around the gorgeous grounds at David Austin Roses. We're so lucky that we only live a 5-minute drive away. We are planning a rose border area towards the back of the garden, which I hope to make a start on in September. There are so many varieties that we love, and MUST HAVE, but today was just for planning. Yep, I didn't buy a single rose. You have no idea how hard it was to resist them....

We took a fair few pictures, so the next few posts will be very picture heavy.

It was lovely to stroll around their gardens, hearing the Peacocks calling out. The gardens take time to walk around and really take in the splendour of it all, so we had a pit stop in their courtyard tea room. We had a lovely latte coffee and delicious slice of cake to recharge our batteries ready for the second stage of the walk around. We do have firm favourites, but we need to be sure that they'll work in the area we have in mind. It's so easy to get swayed by their beauty, but I want to make sure I get it right, so planning is the key; as is saving like a demon.. lol

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. xx

In some areas, it was quite heady, but not too over powering. There were a fair few roses that needed deadheading, it was all I could do to stop myself from getting stuck in! I may very well ask if they need volunteer gardeners to do such a thing. :snork:

Oh if ever you can go, go, it's so worth it. They have coaches come from far and wide, it's so popular. One word of advice I'd give to anyone planning to go is to avoid going during or immediately after the Chelsea Flower show. It is absolutely HEAVING during that week and for a few days after. So many people come across the water to Chelsea and go on to other popular garden centres etc. I made the mistake of going once during a Chelsea week... never again.

Oh Woo, you would love it there, it is stunning. There's so much to see. For some inexplicable reason, both hubby & myself forgot to take photo's of their 'Long Garden' area, we were too busy admiring all the roses I think. :wub2: I thought of you as I was wandering around. You would be in your element.

Thank you for your lovely comment, and what a beautiful rose! I shall have to look that one up. You can rest assured that I will indeed be buying a rose (or 3) to celebrate that milestone.:blue thumb:
