I thought you might like a saunter around Arley Hall, near Knutsford in Cheshire. It's a privately owned Hall and gardens [Lord and Lady Ashbrooke] and a place where many period TV and film dramas have been set, including Sherlock Holmes. I love this place as it was my wife's favourite garden and it has many happy and bitter sweet memories for me. The garden is in it's prime from Late May to September normally but this year has been a cloudy and dull one regarding Summer so most of the gardens I visited haven't at their most glorioius. Anyway I took a walk around on a dull and damp day in the last week in August and the gardens were still as good as ever. But June and July will be the months I will try next year on a sunny day so you can walk around again on a bright, sunny day!

Here's the entrance to the Hall and gardens:

The Furlong path runs along the gardens and the Ha Ha and is where one of the past blind owner's used to walk with a cane touching a rope that was strung along the path with a bell at each end so that he would know when he'd reached the end.

Have a sit down, you must be tired by now:D It's a lovely garden, I'm only sorry the day was dull and it didn't show the garden at it's best. If you get the chance do go and visit it, you won't be sorry. Their Plant Nursery sell some really interesting plants, some from their own borders, and at a lot less price than other Nurseries.

Hi, O' Furry One, you won't regret it if you do persuade the other half to take you. There's another great garden in Staffs that I will go to next year to take pics of so that others can "walk around" in it and that is Biddulph Grange. That was a "lost" garden that was rediscovered and brought back to it's original form and it is pretty unique as it is a garden of countries. Has to be seen to be believed.:D

Very nice Armandii, did they open it just for you? (there is no-one else there!)

              :)

It was one of those grey, horrible, damp days, [August of course], JWK, and a Friday so while there were some people around there weren't many. And, to be honest, I try to avoid getting people in the pics so that they don't distract from the gardens themselves!!!:D

Lovely pictures Armandii. I thought I recognised it. I was there in July,06 on a baking hot day. I have got pictures but they're to big to put on GC as I can only use thumbnails.

                  Beautiful house and gardens!
