I would have hoped the hard frosts would have killed them. I found an adult Lily beetle lurking the other day in the soil around my lilies- I thought these would have died too as we have had frosts with temps of -10C lasting several days here.
I found 3 larvae nestling cosily underneath my begonia corms in a dry corner of the green house. They weren't there when I put the begonias away so there must be some of the adults in my greenhouse
Shall we pray for more hard frosts?

i think its probably to do with the mild winters we get in liverpool and the fact that my 'garden' is actually a concrete yard surrounded by brick walls... mighty cosy for the critters!!

the upside is that pelargoniums survive out there and i'm trying a thunbergii this year...

I always find them in my tubs and containers when I am refilling or putting new compost in them I think they must overwinter in the containers eeven when its cold all of my containers are outside they are a menace thet eat all the roots so you have no chance with the plant

Nathan7,I find that the females often lay her eggs in containers and then it is the larva that finds it's way down to the roots and eats them.Often you think the plants need watering because they wilt, but when you gently pull at the plant they come away rootless.
I think you can buy some compost that has a special ingrediant in it that is supposed to kill off the weevil.I can't remember the name of it though [IMG]

I use the liquid weevil killer which you add to water and pore onto tubs and pots which I have loads of. Trouble is it can get pricey. I have just repotted some plants and discovered the weevil grubs. I chuck the grubs onto my lawn for the birds to eat. I have removed as many as I could see before repotting the plants. Will add some of the liquid killer in a week or so in case I have missed some and I know you can't get all the little blighters out. I would like to know if there is another way of dealing with them that isn't so expensive.
