I just went downstairs to get something and I spotted a frog on the net of our fish pond. I thought "poor ****** cant get in that pond" so I went ouside and picked it up and put it in the wildlife pond. the aww bit is that when I put my hands near it to pick it up, it shut its eyes and lowered its head, like it thought it was going to die :lollol: bless!!! I love frogs :luv: sorry, no pics, I didnt have my phone with me. it was a common frog.
They are out and about right now Ros, there was one outside our front door last night when we came home. Can't imagine what's on their minds to make them so active
lol I think I know! this avo i found 2 frogs in the wildlife pond, guarding a ball of frogspawn! :gnthb: its our first home grown spawn! got pics, but cant find phone cable :dh:
I have two very large balls of spawn in the pond - down at the end not really disturbed by the filtration pump. They've been there about a week now, so hoping for loads of tads next weekend - and they can start feeding off of the horrid green blanketweed for me till it gets under control!
pics at last!! there are 2 frogs in each phtoto. see if you can spot them mummy and daddy are still "guarding" the spawn :luv:
Nice pics, and you spawn looks fertile too. They have come out of hibernation to breed straight away so now eating will be their priority and I don't blame them.
Great Froggy thread. Excuse my ignorance Strongylodon, but how do you know if the spawn is infertile.
Im presuming infertile spawn has no black dots in the middle?? I think its cute that the parents seem to stick around to protect their babies :luv: and there's plenty of life in the pond for them to feed on
Correct Ros, If they are partially black then they are infertile, sometimes they are half black/white or all white (more a creamy beige colour) which means the male didn't aim right.:(:D
just looked in my pond and i have tiny tadpoles. spawn was only laid 2 week ago. i've never known it develop that quick before but i guess it's because it was laid so late, about 3 weeks later than usual. what happens if we get really cold nights now? will it survive?
