I was just reading an article on a newspaper about crows>

[...] In early spring, I brought some sheep's wool home from the fields and scattered it around my garden for birds to use as nesting material.

The wool is always taken by many species.

The crows never interfere with songbirds, and only see off wood pigeons and hawks.

The new crows took some of the wool and dunked it in the garden pond.

I assume they did this to remove the fatty lanolin from the wool, as it turned from light grey to white after a few days of soaking.

They then removed it and laid it in strips on the edging slabs to dry in the sun before taking it to their nest.

    They are such clever creatures...

I like crows and the rest of the crow family. They are all such characters.

At Leeds Castle the resident peacocks strut around the outdoor tables begging for food. They may be pretty, but they are nearly always outwitted by the jackdaws, which are much, much brainier and generally end up pinching all the good bits.
