I have one of these in the ground and being dwarfed by other plants - its just not in the right place :( I would like to put it in a pot and add it to my new seat area - can I do this and if so, what size pot should I use and what sort of soil and when should I do it? The little chap is only about18" tall and my soil is neutral. Thanks [IMG]

Don't put it in full sun while it's little, some people have found theirs reduced to a crisp in this hot weather. They much prefer dappled shade. Find a good large pot that matches it's colouring and wait until Autumn unless you're desperate!

Marge, I have "twin" Acers about 18 inches tall that t'other half bought me last year for our birthaversary (we married on my birthday). I have kept them as Bonsai as we bought them and boy are they suffering here even though they are in shade with late evening sun, misted umpteem times a day, watered daily .... :(

They do prefer cool, shady situations and like to be moist ... I would just keep the little chappie cool and comfortable and forget that he's smaller than everybody else! :D
