acer tree prune

Hello all,

I have no nothing about pruning and wondered if my acer tree needed a winter cut, i did read that most could be left to grow natural and would only need the crossing branches doing, don't really understand what crossing branches are!

I will post pics of my two acers and if you could advice or even mark the pics with which branches i need to prune would be great.

I would remove all of the lower branches and then judge the remainder

 

Crossing branches are those that overlap another one and those branches will eventually rub together creating damage. Think of it like crossing your fingers.
