I love the pretty colours of acers, but I believe they suffer in strong winds. Are there any varieties that don't grow huge and might be able to cope with life on top of a hill in rural Scotland?

I never know which forum to post questions in. Should this be in "Other plants"? I think I'll stick to here so's not to P*** off serious gardeners with my inane questions. :D

They don't like exposed areas, Ravenmad - so I'd say the top of a hill in rural Scotland might not be the best situation for them!

Are we talking north, or what? :D

Ravenmad, instead of an Acer go for Liquidamber, it has the same shape of leaf, the same Autumn colours but is a lot hardier. David.
