Hi, I am about to spend a large part of my garden budget (set by the wife !) on at least 3 acers. My garden is predominately east facing & recieves sun up until around 1 p.m. It is reasonably sheltered from the predominately South Westerly winds by the neighbours large leylandi hedge & I propose to shelter the young trees from North Easterly winds by other planting. As a precaution I was thinking of keeping the plant in the pot, digging a hole and placing it in the ground. This would then allow me to easily move the plant if it transpires that my preferred planting position is unsuitable. I would appreciate any thoughts you may have.
    Thanks in advance.

If you bury the pots be prepared for roots growing through the drainage hole and anchoring the pots in the ground, try and decide where you want them within 12 months and it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd hope to have them in the ground within 12 months , we've just moved in last autumn so I'm not sure what to expect in the way of winds throughout the summer.
    Cheers.
