I have 2 acers, Atropurpureum and Orange Dream.
They are about 15 inches high and i want to plant them in containers.Am i right in thinking to plant them in John Innes No .3 with abit of crock and gravel at the bottom ?Also is sunny /part shade best for both of them ?

I have an acer in a pot in my yard. It was bought several years ago and I used a few chippings on the base topped up with multipurpose compost, morrisons own label. I keep it in a relatively sheltered area with sun on it in the morning. It does need to be kept out of windy ares because acers suffer from wind scorch affecting the leaves. As regards feeding, rightly or wrongly,I give it a shower of erricaeous plant food now and then. As you can see its doing fine.
