I've got some as well, but i usually dry the pots off and leave them through the winter, then take out the tubers in the spring,
I only have a red one these days.
    What colours are yours MF?

[IMG] Oh I say. I have never seen red ones Pete.. I have lovely purple ones. Will post a pic. I also leave them in the pot then shake them out in the spring too... That's why I said for Liz to remind me, although it's on the calender now, you never know..!! We shall have to do a swop if you like, if you don't have purple. I have kept these going for nigh on 30 yrs now, some years there are not many tubers, but we have always come through with something..!!!! ;)

Thats right MF, I did have a purple, but one year it didn't have any tubers, so it died out.
We need to resurrect this thread in the early spring, maybe we can both pass some on to Liz.
I think the specialist growers have some really interesting colours, its an old fashioned plant thats a bit neglected these days.

[IMG] Totally agree about it being an "old fashioned plant". My grandparents grew them...!!!! :D I have only ever seen the purple, didn't know about any other colours.. Puts a whole new light on them..!! :D Yes I agree, Spring would be a good time to start the thread again..!! Will try & set a reminder..! ;)

It's a coincidence you started talking about these now as my Mum gave me a purple one on saturday as a present. I'd never seen one before until then.

It's also known as a friendship plant because people pass them on [I think several plants have this name though].

Yes, Pete - when I asked about them, you posted the photo. y ones are purple, and flowering their socks off!!! They're in the thread about a busy north facing window, if anyone wants to see them. I got them as cuttings - so you're welcome to some cuttings from me if you want them Liz - when they've stopped flowering, that is! :D Just let me know and I'll take some at a suitable moment....

Didn't know you could grow them from cuttings Dendy, do you water them year round and grow as an evergreen then? [IMG]

I guess so. I was given some by one of the old ladies I do charity work for, and she said just to keep them watered well, and they've flowered beautifully!! I've only had them a couple of months, and they've grown very fast.
