My soil is ph 6.5/7, I want to grow potatoes in it, is that ok it is rich in old Horse manure

Where I am growing carrots it is the same but no manure just compost and sharp sand

Does the soil have to be more ACIDIC for potatoes ?
How do you increase acidity ?

I am not going to try brassicas as I have had club root, I under stand that they need alcaline soil/limed

    Please sort me out

Sounds ideal for spuds to me. pH 7 is neutral. Anything lower is acid. Spuds have a fairly wide tolerance, but I've read are less disease prone in slightly acid soil. I've grown spuds in soil that averages about 6.5 but drops to 5.5 in parts, and I got a good crop.

I don't grow veg - so don't know the answer to your problems. However my feeling is that it is rarely worth trying to change the pH of your soil. There is an awful lot of soil, and I suspect that it will keep trying to change back.

I think it would be more sensible to change the plants you grow to suit the soil. Although you can grow some ornamentals in pots.
