I'm new to this board and I'm hoping you can help me.

I am the proud owner of two now massive Papyrus plants. I used to overwinter them in the house but they are now so big I don't have anywhere safe to put them where my rather spoilt cat won't get at them. I'm wondering if they would be safe overwintered outside if I 'fleeced' them up. I do have a small plastic covered greenhouse at the bottom of the garden and I did wonder if they would be okay from the worst elements in there. I live in the East of England by the way.

    All advice gratefully received

    Thanks

    Never tried it I'm afraid.

Its said to be pretty tender, but until you try you wont know.
A greenhouse is probably the best bet.

Hi Nikki and a warm welcome to GC.

After ours was divided and repotted a two years ago, I left some of it in the pond for the winter, in the hope that it would survive and so save us the trouble of lugging it into the Wintergarten (conservatory) for the cold months. Nothing survived.

Our Wintergarten has heaters that come on automatically when the temp gets down to 4°C, so it is never gets to the freezing point. So I know for sure that down to 4°C it will be fine.

    Hope this helps you.

oh dear, sounds as though I'll have to try and find room for them indoors! I've had them several years and I'm rather proud of them so I don't want to risk losing them.

thank you for your input and advice though

    Nik
