Not mine ( :phew: ) but, my neighbour's.

When I'm in the garden and his boiler is operating, there is a pop! which comes from the outlet on the outside wall. Should I be concerned? :dunno:

Is there water coming out of this outlet and does it look like a smallish (15mm) round pipe? If so it's probably the safety valve and it should not be happening regularly - best to tell your neighbour as they probably won't realise something is wrong.

If it's around 110mm diameter then it could be the balanced flue outlet - that shouldn't make any noise as far as I know, so again I'd let your neighbour know as it could indicate something is wrong.

If its a balanced flue vent then it could be a flap to protect against back drafts. They sometimes have these little covers to prevent that and when it's windy they can flap and make a noise.

I've got a balanced flue boiler and it does make a noise, more of a metallic click, when the boiler fires up.
Its down, I believe, to the metal that the flue outlet is made of heating up and expanding.
Probably makes more noise during really cold weather for obvious reasons.

Mine makes a click when it first fires up; clicks are good (I think)
My concern about the POP! which my neighbour's boiler makes (from outside) there was one occasion, it almost sounded like a hand gun going off (certainly made me jump!). Would hate for it to explode one day ... aside from the damage to their property ... it would take out one side of my house.

Hmm... yeah I'd be a bit worried if it sounded like a gun too!
