hiya Woo :) im afraid i wont be much help, our Polo suffered from this in his later years & i gave up on the Vets as (like you) all the vets lotions & potions never had any effect at all

what i resorted to doing was just giving the area a good wash with oatmeal shampoo (very soothing stuff ) dried it thoroughly & then rubbed in a generous quantity of baby powder (to help keep the area dry) it didn't get rid of the problem but it did help dry the Hot Spot up & definitely helped take the itch out of his coat:doggieshmooze:

Warning: I have not tried this - I'm thinking outside the box here!

Ok, getting the disclaimer out of the way first: have you tried a very thin application of "Sudacrem"? It is recommended (human use) for things such as eczema, bed sores, sunburn, nappy rash etc. because it is an antiseptic barrier cream.

Now, I have not used it on a canine, but I *have* used it on my chickens (to tackle scaly leg - and they survived it). The trick is, not to use more than the merest hint of a thin layer over the affected area. I think if you used a teeny amount on a test area, you could then view any results and make a decision. When my teens were afflicted with spots, on my advice, they would put a teeny amount of Sudacrem on the spot to a) prevent infection, b) create a barrier for further infection and c) it did appear to dry it out so the area wasn't weeping pus.

Whether you decide to do a test area is entirely up to you, of course.

Ultimately, I wish Penny a speedy recovery :doggieshmooze:

No vet bashing please, we're not miracle workers! Skin problems, especially if they are seasonal, are notoriously hard to sort in humans and animals. My doctor hasn't been that much more useful with my seasonal eczema! I can second both oatmeal shampoo and sudacrem, I've used both with success in dogs and horses. I'm glad Penny's feeling better Woo :)

Hi Woo, one of Antony's dogs suffers with this & his vet recommended he went to the health foods shop & bought a pot of A. Vogels - Soothing Neem cream.. About £5.. It is recommended for eczema & skin conditions in humans... It goes a long way too..
Anyway he bought a pot & it seemed to have a very good effect very quickly.. Better than anything the vet had tried.. He found this site & got some shampoo as well & now that is all he uses & it has not been a problem at all this year.. At the first sign he starts the cream & it usually disappears almost straight away...

You might like to give it a try..

This is Sudocrem Woo.. Antony tried it, but finds the neem better
