Hi, I've scarified, and got my fork ready to aerate!! Just been to local DIY/garden place for sand, and he told me I need sharp sand, not builders sand as builders sand will kill the grass. Is this right? Don't want an aching back and dead grass!! That just wouldn't be fair!

Absolutely right. The usually red coloured sand used for mortar clings together, sharp sand is full of different sized peices and stays separate, that is what you need. Easy to tell which is which, if it makes good sandcastels then it is no good for lawns. Watch out that the sharp sand is not from a sea source as that could contain salt, again not good for lawns.
