Now, I obviously go around here with my eyes closed because I saw this for the first time today .... now that the flowers have gone, there are small plantlets in place of the flowers .....

Brings to mind those plantlets that , (I think it was Steve 1973), was distributing a while back off of his" yucca like" plant, Ided by Dave P as Furcraea.
Those formed on the flowering spike after flowering as well.

I'm not sure how unusual it is for plantlets to form in place of, or with, seed on a flowered spike in the agave family.
I think it might be fairly common.

Are you sure its " Americana" LoL?

Off track a bit, (just slightly):D, but it happens quite a lot with onions and leeks.:)

That's a flag pole, Babe .... :p Sis kept getting in my way and I couldn't get a clear picture so gave up ..... :D

Capney .. BM knows what he wants in this arena ...... :thumb:

Yes, pete, Sis queried that and just about tromped through to look where it was coming from. I have pictures in my Med book showing them like that now that I look more closely and t'other half and I have said we just thought they were 'green things' after the flowers not realising they were the offshoots. If I remember correctly, it was the striped variety .... will have to go back through my pics, but tomorrow. :) It's at the beach bar we go to once or twice a month as of this year in Ferragudo where I got the Shinus from.

Evening treesurfer. I chose to live here and leave the UK (Bucks and the IoW) so I could have constant sunshine .... but we're praying for the rains at the moment having had a six-month dry summer.... but we won't complain. This is why I live here ....

    Good evening, folk.:)

Here is a close-up (as best I could do without blurring) of the plantlets ...

And pete, I didn't have a picture of the base, but here is one about 20 metres away taken yesterday as well and I would say it's an Agave americana variegata ....

On my journeys today I examined every one of these blooming and they are all laden with plantlets.

Babe, kalmia and bobj ..... I shall be posting yours tomorrow .... :thumb:
