ERRRRMMMM - on Friday on Gardeners World Monty spoke about butterflies and he netted up his cabbages I think. I had a house full and the tv was on quietly in the background so I didn't see/hear everything.

Today there have been several butterflies in the garden - so pretty. But i be concerned? What will they be looking for in my kitchen garden? I have netting, I have a fruit cage - so please advise what needs 'protection'. Or is it too late?

Growing broc, sprouts, spuds, carrots, courgettes, onions, spring onions, aubergines, chillis, peppers, corn, beet, peas and beans.

Thanks. I am armed and ready to go - just point me in the right direction. Ta.

Well I watched yesterday's Gardeners World. What Monty did to deter white cabbage butterflies (from getting to his newly transplanted cabbages) was to outline the area with stakes and placing upturned pots on the stake ends. Then placing fine netting over it, tautly, weighed down with bricks etc - leaving no gaps (else they will get in!)

Errrrm. I will give it a go, but my current set up makes it difficult. I also don't have fine netting, but something is better than nothing. I am away from Monday for three but hubby will be watering. He won't though be on slug, snail, caterpillar, butterfly, Beatle, green fly, pigeon watch. He does though yell at the neighbours cats!

Next year I will be so sussed for this stuff. Will plant in areas where I can set up nets easily and also keep similar thi gs togethers
