    Good morning

I tried a bit of air layering on my cherry tree at the end of last summer, I have just removed the plastic ball to find there are no roots, can you tell me where I have gone wrong, please.

You haven't left it on there long enough.

The roots would not form when the tree is not growing, so the whole of the winter it has done nothing.

You can see the callus forming and the bud below has broken, suggests it was having an effect but needed to be on there during the growing season.

Think I would try giving the callus a scrape, apply some rooting hormone and put the air layer back on for a few months.

        Thank you, understood,

I will also give the callus a scrape and apply some rooting hormone as you say..

Its worth a try, you could also try another one if you have a suitable branch.
