My sister in law as got an Airedale terrier dog .
She had him from a tiny puppy.
He is now 14 months old.
The problem is he is scratching and biting himself .
    His back stomach legs everywhere.
She as taken him to the Vets had all the usual skin s****ping ,washes and tablets change of diet but nothing seems to work.
I think he is getting worse.
If you touch his back he goes mad, starts to tremble and scratch like mad.
I have always had dogs and never seen anything like it.
The other thing he is terrified of travelling in a car.
He foams at the mouth and makes himself sick.

Anybody seen anything like this before.
    He is a lovely dog.
It's such a shame for him.

    His name is Oscar.
He rolls jumps runs, he's still a young dog.
    He's still into everything.
Apart from the itching and biting he's fine.
O and the terrible car sickness.
I really hope they find something they can treat.
One vet seems to think it could be a nerve problem.

I posted it on here just in case someone might know of another dog with this sort of thing and how they were treated.

    Liz,

Just seen this thread, wish i had logged on before, been a bit busy, will pm you info on dealing with car sickness.

As for the scratching, the Vet has probably already given you some Malaseb shampoo. If it were contact dermatitis which can have a very quick onset the poor lad would literally have torn at least one patch of his hair out.

Mange would have been picked up by the vet also i should think. If it is an allergy you need to start narrowing it down:

Have you tried a allergen free food such as James Wellbeloved? Probably have i suppose [IMG]

A tick is a possibility, they can be damn hard to find, and if you use Frontline Combi flea treatments these irradicate ticks as well as flea's anyway.

Has he been to any new area's at the onset of the problem? Could be an allergen picked up at round that time started it off?

Gonna have to get my copy of Black's out for this one me thinks, poor thing [IMG]

Oscar is my sister in laws dog.
She as been so many times to the vet and had all kinds of different lotions and medication for him.
She is waiting for the test results from Friday.
    They might tell her more.

He as started to get a patch of skin showing on his back.
Not sure if the hair as fallen out or if he as pulled it out.

I'll let you no if the results find anything.
The vet did say to stop having him cut.
    I don't no why.
He as done the food thing and frontline.

I will pass on all the info.
    Many thanks.

Not a cure, but fitting a lightweight dog coat would help to break the itch/scratch cycle. The dog would then be a little less agitated. Also keep the dog out of warm centrally heated rooms, with a thick coat, he will be getting very hot. Low calorific food and lots of garlic may help, but if the problem is diet, then it could be very difficult to stabilise him. Make sure he is wormed up to date with a full spectrum wormer, a worm burden can manifest itself all sorts of ways.

My sister in law as gone on holiday today and haven't been told any results yet.
Oscar is staying with her son.

    The heat thing was interesting.
He sleeps in the kitchen at night, with the Aga.
But stays out side in a run on the back of a heated out house in the day.

I wonder if it's the change in tempreture.
