Has anyone had any success growing Akebia from seed? I tried a couple of years ago, followed the sowing instructions to the letter, and got zero germination. I'm wondering whether it's worth giving it another go as I haven't seen any plants to buy in the garden centres around here.

    Hi Lorea

I got seeds from Chiltern Seeds a couple of years ago and had the same success rate as you ... zilch!

Perhaps someone can advise us where we went wrong ... maybe we live on the wrong side of The Channel!

Akebia are notoriously tricky from seed. Seed storage is said to be vital, the seed has a maximum viability of about two years, the soak and cold stratification and so on.
Freshly harvested seed sown in the autumn is probably the way to go
