Akebia Quinata

Please help with this enquiry from Italy! This akebia quinata is in pots with soft, fertilized with manure pellets and drainage with volcanic lapilli. The plant gets sun all morning and part of the afternoon. A month ago the branches were full of gems. Last week suddenly the leaves are withered and then dried. Although the plant is located in a house central Italy visited sporadically I have always found the soil moist, which makes me think that the plant has not suffered drought. What could have happened? too much manure or maybe it was the chill of the night? or even too much water?

Dont think it is the chill of the night Im pretty sure they are really hardy. We had them growing out of control next door up the trees and they never suffered through snow or ice etc

Have the roots been disturbed in anyway? apparently it hates root disturbance

other than that i cant find any problems it would have on the RHS page
