The last couple of years the leaves on my alder have been shredded and look like brown lace. I think I have finally narrowed this down to alder flea beetle. I have put glue bands around the trunk of the tree, but I have noticed a couple of beetles higher up than the band and can only assume the "flea" name means that they are jumping or flying over the band. Nothing much online about their life-cycle, although at the moment they seem to be capable of flight while later in the year they can only crawl. Other than completely covering the trunk with glue bands is there any other efficient alternative?

    Thank you.
