Hi All,

I went to Aldi today and noticed that they had 40L of compost for £1.99. I was wandering if anyone has/does use it and if its any good?

Thanks
Rusty

Haven't tried it but will watch this thread to see if anyone else has. I saw someone filling his trolley with it recently and he said it was great stuff but that could have meant anything..............

Our store is selling the stuff like proverbial hot cakes, they're continually re-stocking. I bought a couple of bags the other week to fill up a 'potato' bag; to be honest its the same as many other composts this year which have a lot of shredded woody material in it, but from the pictures I've seen and the few different bags I've bought this year it's certainly not the worst. It all depends what you want your compost for??

I think a better compost is ASDA's; I bought 3 x 70l bags for £10, which is a marginally better deal than the Aldi ones; if you bought 5 x 40l bags for £10 you'd be getting 200l as opposed to 210l from Asda. In my oppinion the Asda compost is not too bad either (better than the bag I had from there last year), much less woody material and very few lumps, it is compressed and needs breaking up but once you've done that its nice and 'fluffy'.

Back to Aldi, they're also stocking soil conditioner, top soil and bark chips which seem to be all seling equally as well too...

I bought some a couple of weeks ago, Ive used it to fill up my containers. I wouldn't use it to sow seed though, It's not really fine enough. It does contain alot of wood, sticks and even a few stones! The one for they do especially for seedings and cutting is great though.

Is the asda version the one to go for this year?
Want to be doing my baskets and pots v soon and seem to be rather mixed signals on here this year.

Cheers

Hi Exlabman , in the GC annual compost reviews :snork: I think that this year the B n Q 3 for £10 is ahead by a short nose ! Anyway thats what I,m using this year , rather than my usual Wickes stuff.

I have taken both Aldi and Lidl, some bags were excellent others just like everyone else's full of wood
I bought half a dozen Morrisons GPC and the first two were excellent compost fine and dark, rich smell. next four were just full of lolipop sticks and shredded wood ?

I wonder what went wrong this year, all the same no matter what comany
