Popped over to Aldi this morning for some plug plants.
    Gazania, petunia, Lobelia, and aster.
All looking good and healthy as they did last year and look good to produce fine plants.
    £1:99 a pack I think is a good buy.

    I have question:
I have a small area against a North / South fence which is on the North side.
Probably only about 3 Sq metres.
I never seem to able to grow much there except the seed that falls from the bird table !
Soil is well made up with homemade compost and soil.
Anybody any suggestion whats best for this area?
    Something smallish and maybe perennial.

[size=medium]Hostas should do well there for you Capney as well as Geranium Phyum.
I'm sure you'll get other suggestions.

    Hi Capney

I have an area on the north side of a garage that gets almost no sun.

The picture above shows part of the area with Hemerocallis (foreground), Lythrum Blush (in pink), Crocosmia Lucifer (bright red) and Persicaria amplexicalis behind. The garage itself is on the left of the picture.

Also in that area is Astrantia, Lobelia siphilitica, Dicentra and Aquilegia. They all seem to be happy there.

When I started, I put an Artemesia there. Big mistake, Artemesia likes sun - and it died.

Thanks guys. some splendid advise as always.
I do have one single Hoster and a clump of Crocosmia that I am stripping and chucking several bulbs every year.
That sounds like a good starter.

I also have loads of Geraniums (a selection) I have saved from last year, which may do well.
Looks like I have this little issue sorted.

Question: can Hoster be divided? If so, when.

Aldi and Liddels do some good bargains!! I bought a pack of 4 Dahlia tubers from Aldi for £1.45p against the Nursery's offer of 3 for £3.99p. I've bought their bedding plants plugs over the years and always found them good and best of all - cheap!! I'll be back there this Saturday to see what's on offer.
