It's stunning Victoria........and here I am looking out of the window on a dull, cold evening in the middle of summer. No comparison! :)

After traversing the world several times, over fifty years
The worst place I have ever been, even worse than the slums of Shanghai
      was Albufeira Portugal

The only good thing about it was a day trip to Cabo De Sao Vicent, the airport home and the food was good

No doubt if you live IN Portugal it may be as nice as UK's Lake district
Albufeira must be the Toxteth of Portugal

Based on that most unwelcoming of visits by locals I will never return

I take in what you say Jack and I have too have traversed the world for over 50 years ... there and back .. and the rest and lived in many countries ... (you are only one year older than me) ....

Cabo Sáo Vincente is the most westerly point in Europe and I have to say nothing worth visiting in my opinion .. full of foreign caravan tourists trashing the place.

I don't know when you were in Albufeira but I have been coming here for 27 years, owning for 23 years and living since 2001. I have to say though that Albufeira ... a dreaded holiday resort known for the drunken Brits who frequent it and puke all over the place which I have witnessed at lunchtimes whilst I am trying to eat my lunch ... is actualy a very nice, decent resort when these Brits are not there.

Albufeira is now a very up-market place and very clean and pretty and has a blue-flag beach .. probably something UK beaches don't have .. we actually have more in Algarve than anywhere in Europe. The town puts on free shows for New Years with major bands (Bryan Adams for one) .. where do they do that in the UK?

Perhaps you should may like to re-visit or re-consider your comments.. but somehow I think not ... but please do not criticise a place you haven't been to in ... when .... ?

        FOUR YEARS

Not recommended to leave your kids 100 yards away whilst you pop over the street for a snack

Don't go down that road Jack .. that is irresponsible British parents who, if it happened in Britain would be in prison now, where they should be ...

Thank you Penny .. I do too ... must catch up at some time ... xx

:) It's OK if you dont mind periods of unbearable heat, constant dust third world poverty, euro meltdown etc. etc......ok for a week or fortnight as an adventure......but not for day to day living.:mute:

I have traveled around a bit and have not seen ANYWHERE as beautifully diverse and interesting as Great Britain.
What makes Britain all these things.....The people, the scenery, the weather, the politics and the gardens, etc. etc. etc.:)

                  It looks lovely Victoria. :)
To be fair, I think you could make a film like that for any country in the world using edited clips on sunny days. :WINK1:

                    OK back to reality...

I myself would not like to live in a place which is too hot because I really find it hard to bear the heat. What I find even harder is the insects biting me, which you can be guaranteed they will do if there is a single mosquito.

I know all about your feelings Rod, because people that live in Scandinavian Countries for example they find it unbearable to live in most parts of the world, because nothing is as perfect as their Country.
(I have heard it all before from my Icelandic half of the apple and I had SOOOO enough of it)

But then, wherever you are born, you cannot but feel some attachment to that Country.

Having said that, Vicky, so looking forward to visit you in Portugal, and it will definitely happen...
