I have been given a mixed bag of allium bulbs, is it ok to plant them in big tubs, I've never grown them before, I'm not even sure what kind they are. Should I plant them now and keep them somewhere frost free? any help would be great. [IMG]

I'm not sure dalbuie, as far as I know they are usually hardy, so planting them now should be OK.
Better wait and see if anyone else confirms that though. [IMG]

Oh my, its gonna be surprise time come spring. Without knowing what they are tis a bit difficult - but yes plant them in your tubs - probably safer than in the border. But I would protect them during cold periods - move them close to the house wall, and if necassary i.e. it temperatures go below 2c then cover them with bubble wrap or the like.

If they survive and grow, then maybe we can sort out the hardy from the non hardy.

Thanks folks,I will now plant them in my tubs and probably put them in the greenhouse when it gets really cold, it tends to do that up here :D I am looking forward to seeing what I get. I will tell you about them in the spring if they survive!
