Hi everybody! We live in S-W France in Quercy, which means "Land of Oak Trees" - (latin quercus = oak tree, as I'm sure you know!). We have our own local special subspecies of green tree frog - the "hyla arborea" I chose as a name. It seemed a good name since - it is said - I look like a bullfrog with indigestion on my passport photie! Soil is clay with rocks in. Too wet and it sticks to everything, too dry and you need a sledgehammer! But the wine's good...!!!

Welcome H-A! Think you're the third member from SW France now - so you can have a good moan together abot the soil..... there's Mona Lisa, and another relatively new person, whose name I can't at the moment recollect.....

    Hi Strongylodon!
Our subsp. is listed in my local herpetology guide as a full species, I've just discovered - h. meridionalis - though my UK guide calls it a subsp.! Dunno who's right. It has a short stripe not a full-length one! (If you'd like a picie I can mail you one...!)
    Thanks for the welcome message!

    Thanks, jazz!
I've just leaned how to post piccies, so perhaps I should start with this... It's the REAL "hyla arborea" we get in our garden. I nicked its scientific name as my username. Some people (who may yet get writs for slander!) say that's 'cos I look like it! [IMG]

A beautiful specimen, I can see he/she has half a stripe. I used to keep them years ago but were too noisy indoors, the fire bellied toads I have now are quieter. :D
