Am I going mad or is some cheeky person going into my garden to check the coop for eggs???

I cleaned the chucks out today then toddled off to school to pick Drew up the came back and finished it off. What I'm puzzled about is that I clearly remember putting the lid on the nesting box properly (it's a weird fit so you have to fiddle around with it and it has 2 catches 1 of which I'm 100% sure I hooked into place) and locked up one of the doors while the floor dried out. I then went out at 9 as usual to lock them up for the night ( with another pad lock (we're very trusting round my way)) and on peering in to see who was in bed I noticed a gap in the nest box lid meaning either I'm going mad or that someone has been in my garden, lifted the lid and checked for eggs.:skp::mad:

I even checked with Drew to make sure he didn't do a late check and it wasn't him as he sometimes check when he goes to see them after school.

The worrying thing is that it's not the first time I've been sure I've put the lid on properly and wondered why it's not on right.

The coop already had 2 pad locks on it but I get the feeling I'm going to have to put another on  It's not fair, it's my blinking garden, there my chickens and eggs so if someone is coming into my garden what the hell makes them think they have the right too.

And on top of that while I was away last month I found out that 3 school kids had been in the garden throwing big lumps of mud at them, thankfuly a friend had a word and convinced them that if they didn't want their parents telling thay'd better not do it again.

Rant over although I could go on and on and on and on and on :help:

Rats pinch eggs, but I can't see how they'd get in to the nest box. Mind they are very intelligent creatures so you never know.

No, there are two doors (with the pad locks) to the coop and a lid to the nest box (which just have hooks and eyes).

Sounds like the two legged variety of predator. Probably kids.

Crows, magpies and foxes could get into the hen house to steal the eggs but your security sounds a bit advanced for them to get open.
