    Hello again,

I've got one raspberry bush (raspberry erika -a primocane) although not aure what that means. Its supposed to be good in a pot and its in its second year now.

I had a few really nice fruits off it this year at the beginning of summer, but not as many as i'd hoped. Just been over to look at it and noticed these:

Is this a second lot of raspberries?!? Or just old bits?!? I thought they were early summer rasps only?!

On a slightly different note...is it likely I will get any more tomatoes? I have quite a few more flowers but didnt think realistically that they would grow or ripen in time? Am i best off cutting the flowery bits off so my other baby plums ripen up better? My garden is south facing but is in partial shade because it is surrounded by bloomin trees which my neighbours dont look after! :(

It's late now IMO Snorky, you can cut the flowers off but it won't make much difference,if you have any banana skins I'd hang them near them to help with ripening, that time of the year I'm afraid..:blue thumb:

Will just let them try and ripen then. If i didn't have a bad irrational fear of bananas id be using your tip!

it's spreading further enriched humous near to the stem of the cane. Well rotted farmyard manure is good, as is mature chicken poo funnily enough! Or feed with good old Tomorite - that's easy peasey,

Primocane means the fruit will form on new shoots in the first year, meaning they are Autumn fruiting raspberries (Floricane fruits earlier on the previous year's growth).

Be optimistic, as every so often the weather stays mild enough that tomatoes grown under cover will be OK until quite late in the year. I've left them and cut the green toms just before the frost has got in and had the last of them around Xmas/New year.

            In 2011:

Tomatoes in polytunnel on 1st Nov (needed a bit of heat on a few nights)

They finally expired on on the 29th November!

I thought that until recently too ... some of the new primocanes can produce a crop in the Summer, and then fruit in the Autumn. The pruning is a bit complicated, from memory, though.

IMHO you need a lot more than one plant to get enough for a decent "meal". The fruits are borne over several weeks, so there is unlikely to be enough, on one plant, at any one moment in time for a "meal". I have 10 plants, although I don't look after them particularly well, so fewer might well be "enough" but we reckon to pick ours about twice a week and to get enough for a bowl for at least 4 people each time :)

The tomatoes are continuing to grow and ripen! :) had some lovely ones-i love the baby plum tomatoes. I've got a little greenhouse heater so will get that going when needed. :)

Yep-just got one plant to see if I could manage to grow it. I think I will get another one as the rasps are really tasty.

Will have to look up pruning technique. Last year i just chopped it down as it looked dead and it just grew back :)
