I've been having amongst other things pains in my knees.
So having no real response from the NHS in the past year or so I went down the Ben**den route I've paid into that for years and never used it.

So, after getting a triage call, bearing in mind, for some reason I was suddenly offered an NHS one a week earlier which I put off as I'd said I was going down this route, Iwas offered 6 physio appointments.
So off I go last week for appointment no1 30mins of mostly sitting at opposite ends of the room to this bloke who didn't really want to come near me.

He did eventually get me to lay on a bed and he pushed in parts of my knees asking if this hurt or that.

Then he said put oil on your knees and roll around an ice cube along with laying on your back and lifting each leg in the air.

Next appointment is in two weeks time.

My knees hurt all the time and have done for ages, and the last thing I do is sit around, just cant walk far or stand up for hours.

Not sure where this fits in with the problem.

Its at a local Gym, so I'm guessing arthritis is not something he sees much judging by the other patients that were there.

Surely you need a diagnosis before getting physio? I don't know what to suggest.

I have been down a similar path earlier this year with hand tendon issues. The initial NHS phone appointment sent me to a physio who diagnosed my problem. I thought it was arthritis but it's not that. Trouble is the treatment hasn't worked, I am just hoping it clears up by itself. I made it worse this week cutting the hedge, also strimming is bad, my hand locks up after an hour or so. It's been nearly 10 months since I injured it.

This is the problem of age, in the past I've worked off things like this. You can't just stop and rest for a few weeks it makes old git itus even worse.

This is strange because I've only ever involved Benn*den twice , once regarding a scan for my back late last year and again this time, both with referrals from my GP.
On both times the NHS has come back and beaten the waiting time, suspicious or what?

How come if I involve them can the NHS somehow fit me in quicker.

In some ways I wish I had taken the NHS triage appointment instead of the Benne*den one as it was faster, and they might have been a bit more interested in arthritis than the bloke at the Gym who tends to deal with the odd sprained ankle.

That doesn't sound like good value for money, I hope your next appointment will be better, and hopefully with another person. You need better treatment than that.

I sympathise with you totally about your painful knees ...
I have painful knees, and we had a stairlift for Beryl (late partner) which I also use ... but it goes so slowly that I recently decided to walk up the stairs. On coming down my right knee gave way and I nearly fell down the stairs. That's what comes from being stubborn and thinking you're still young and fit.

Then last Wednesday I was dead heading some flowers etc and after a while found that my back was so painful I could hardly move. Somehow I got back inside the house and took painkillers but it has got worse with each passing day and now I've made an appointment to see an osteopath next Tuesday.
The pain is so bad that I have collapsed on the floor a few times, and then I can't get up, and I find difficulty breathing in as well.

The most difficult thing is feeding Bella cat, because I have to reach the floor, what a performance ! :heehee:

Well that's enough about me, this is about you so good luck with your next appointment, take care until then

I have been thinking of taking glucosamide, but don't think it works very quickly. Have you tried it ?

Sounds bad Michael, you need to get the back sorted if nothing else, dont let it go on too long if you can help it.
I know as we get older we all get these things, but getting any help from the NHS is getting laughable, they are busy doing other things, but its been like that for years.

They keep us all alive, but dont really pay any attention to how healthy we are.
What's the point in being alive and in pain all the time.

Be careful about falling over, remember to roll with it.

I've fallen over on the allotment a few times recently, just seem to get my toe caught up on something and down I go. If I couldn't get up I'd probably be there a couple of days or more before anyone found me.
Mostly if I fall I tend to not try to stop myself but just go with it nolt easy though if there are hard surfaces about.

That's why I went straight to the osteopath instead of GP.

Beryl used to say that when she became very disabled, but I couldn't cope with it and I'd say something like "They're not ready for you yet" or something just as daft, but I suppose it's true. It's such a struggle to do anything and it's not as enjoyable any more.

I hope you've got a mobile phone to contact someone from the allotment. That's the thing with me - no mobile phone. I must get one !

I take it, someone in my Badminton Club recommended it years ago when I used to suffer with swollen ankles. It started working within a couple of weeks and definitely helps keep my joints working, the swollen ankles went away. The Doctor asked me about it and said there is no scientific evidence to back it up but it seems to work for some people. I actually take Glucosamine with Chondriton (might have spelled that wrong). Worth trying, I take one tablet of these every day:
Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Fast Release Formula

You must, useful if you ever break down nowadays (I mean the car breaks down, not you physically), I usually forget to carry mine especially in the garden though. A cheap non smart-phone is probably the answer for you.

Although, if you have breakdown cover, on the car, not you,, most now have an app whereby you can see where the bloke is that is coming to you and it also gives them your exact location automatically.
