Working in my kitchen today with the back door open I heard a blackbird giving out his frantic warning call. On investigation he was sitting on the overhead cables that pass just outside my boundary. I looked up and said to him......whats up? I told him I'd have a look round for any cats that might be lurking. I was talking to him the whole time and finished by saying, I can't see anything, it's down to you!

It didn't occur to me until I went back inside, I was holding a one sided conversation with a blackbird who hadn't got a clue what I was saying. If the neighbours heard me they must think I'm mad!

Sheal the neighbours probably were out, that's why the blackbird was shouting! I'm sure your neighbours are used to you.

I talk to the birds whilst putting the bird food out, they shout at me, so i talk to them. I'm sure they are getting used to me now, they sit on the bird table at tea time and look at the window, hinting for food. Cute.

:D I say hello to most wildlife that will stay and listen. Except swans, usually end up either fighting with them or picking them up.

Mrs shiney also has a habit of picking up birds (I used to until she put a stop to it :heehee:) especially ducks, the occasional swan and a lot of little birds. I have quite a few photos of her holding them. :dbgrtmb:

Did you know that the blackbirds chatter alarm is for ground predators?...When they make a long drawn out 'Weeeeeeeee!' it's a bird of prey or a crow.

Zig, you'd like this track by the Singing Loins: 'Chatham Girls'. (They wrestle good.)

I always talk to the wildlife. And the cat. He's a brilliant listener and hangs on to my every word. Especially around feeding time.
